THE COOLEST THINGS OF ALL TIME

The iPhone has been named the coolest thing on the planet.

A study of 3,000 Brits carried out by Costa Coffee to mark the launch of its new Ice Cold range of summer drinks saw the gadget top the poll of ‘coolest things ever’ beating the internet, Sky+ and social networking website Facebook.

Second place went to Apple, the brand behind the smart phone while the World Wide Web was voted third.

Apple’s music player, the iPod, ranked at number four while the Aston Martin DB9 completed the top five.

But while Apple’s products dominated the top five, the much hyped iPad only made number seventeen with even the GHD hair straighteners ranking higher.

Simple pleasure Cadbury’s chocolate came sixth in the poll followed by Sky+, auction website eBay, mobile phones and Facebook finally in tenth place.

The poll also revealed that cool isn’t always about cash as high street clothing stores Primark and Topshop were deemed cooler than designer brands such as Versace and Dolce & Gabbana.

This was also seen when it came to cars with the iconic Mini Cooper, VW Camper Van and VW Beetle considered cooler than the Lamborghni Diablo and Mercedes 600 Pullman.

Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp was the highest ranking celebrity on the overall list while former England Captain David Beckham and King of Pop Michael Jackson were the next famous faces to feature although the Dyson Vacuum Cleaner was rated as cooler than both.

Kevin Hydes, Costa’s UK Head of Marketing and spokesperson for the Ice Cold Costa range, said:

“It’s been interesting seeing what the nation deems to be cool.  It’s no surprise gadgets like the iPhone and supercars like the Aston Martin DB9 feature highly. However, it’s refreshing to see more humble items such as Cadburys chocolate and Facebook rate so highly. Lego was even been voted as being cooler than James Bond!

“For those who can’t stretch to the likes of an Audi R8, a taste of cool can be had at Costa with our new Ice Cold range of drinks – they’re cool, refreshing, and a lot lighter on the pocket!”
