Deutsche Bahn introduces Paypal as new online payment method for rail tickets

Online Tickets can now be paid via Paypal. Additional Pilot project for providing information about delays and disruption via email

Deutsche Bahn can now offer customers an additional method of payment for online booking via bahn.com. With immediate effect payment by PayPal is also available. This free payment option is integrated in the booking process and can be selected as a payment method alongside payment by direct debit or credit card. You just need a log-in for PayPal which you can request for the first time during the booking process. “With this new comfortable way to pay for tickets online we are responding to another main request from our customers”, continues Ulrich Homburg.

In addition Deutsche Bahn is offering a new real-time information service to customers: during the pilot project passengers will be actively informed about delays or problems during a journey. In the case of a delay of more than 10 minutes or another problem affecting the journey passengers will receive an email and a link to further information about the problems and, if necessary, alternative routes.

„Our customers always tell us how important early information about delays and changes is“, says Ulrich Homburg, Chairman of the Board of Deutsche Bahn’s passenger transport division. „We are really pleased to be able to satisfy the needs of our customers by taking this first step in providing an active customer information system.

Initially the new service is only available via email for registered customers who have booked a long-distance train. A gradual roll-out of this service is planned during the course of the year.
