Dubai royal live-streams ‘raid’ by people linked to her husband Sheikh Saeed

“They are taking my parents, now they will snatch my children!”

Billionaire Dubai sheikh’s estranged wife posts harrowing videos claiming she is being ‘raided’ by people linked to her husband, Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Sheikha Zeynab Javaldi is the third wife of Sheikh Saeed, son of the former ruler of Dubai and nephew of current ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Sheikh Saeed is also known for being an equestrian, businessman and former Olympian sport shooter. By contrast, he is now being named as allegedly being the cause of his wife to plead for help because of the abuse she has suffered.

In the videos, Sheikha Zeynab cries for help, explaining that she has been persecuted since leaving the sheikh nine months ago. Javadli is clearly distressed, speaking about people she alleges are linked to her husband entering her home.

The videos were posted on Thursday 10 September on her personal Instagram account, @zeyn7, but by the end of the same day they had been deleted.

Detained International is a not-for-profit Legal advocacy NGO focusing on the protection and promotion of justice and human rights in Dubai, the UAE and Middle East. It’s founder, human rights lawyer David Haigh, who also represents Sheikha Latifa Al Maktoum, commented:

“We were aware of Zeynab’s case for some time and have offered assistance. Some women in this situation have managed to escape but sadly, the majority don’t.

In Dubai, royal women and women in general are treated very badly. They are denied their human rights and not allowed to live how they want. Zeynab is yet another member of the royal family who is being persecuted.

She is facing intimidation and isolation and I am afraid that it’s not going to end well for her unless and until the international community call upon the UAE to respect women's rights and of course all human rights.”

One of the videos live-streamed can be viewed on the Detained International YouTube channel.
