VIDEO PREMIERE: The Callas w/ Lee Ranaldo - “Melaniá”

New Noise Magazine earlier today, premiered The Callas’ new music video for their song “Melaniá” (watch it below), which features Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth). The Callas also collaborated with Lee Ranaldo on their forthcoming album Trouble and Desire, which is scheduled to be released on October 26 through Inner Ear Records and Dirty Water Records.

The band commented on the video:

"The video was shot during our film premiere (‘The Great Eastern‘) which was followed by our collaborative performance with Lee Ranaldo at Onassis Cultural Centre and was curated by Flix. An amazing 1000 capacity theater was sold out! In the backstage with Lee, ‘The Callasettes’, the dancers, the actors of the film, the Flix girls and boys and the filming crew guided by director Dimitris Kotselis was like a haze."

"Drinks, sweat, chips, and eyeliner. I got out for a quick smoke and that was it! I saw a fucked up ice cream on the floor begging me for some attention. I finished my stuff, I said a tender goodbye to the melting yellow/brown sweetie, I took a photo of it and I knew that we had our next album cover!"

THE CALLAS: Post-Punk Collective Share Title Track Video From Lee Ranaldo Album Collaboration; "Trouble And Desire"

This song is a perfect example of how Lee Ranaldo and The Callas “speak the same language” (as Lee put it). It’s got elements of ’60s psych, droning but driving jams, and a speak-sung vocal delivery — all elements that you can also hear in Sonic Youth and Lee’s solo material. Check it out below.

Describing this experience together, the guitarist said that it was a “natural fit,” before adding, “we speak the same language.” Deciding to continue their efforts, Ranaldo returned to Greece to work on The Callas newest album, Trouble and Desire.
