Many Changes Are Taking Place in the Digital and Optical Disc Industry.
In order to reduce costs and increase margins some suppliers of CD and DVD Copying are changing recordable disc manufacturers from where they normally purchase so that they can buy at much cheaper prices. This can be a false economy as some of these producers manufacture a substandard product. This also applies to CD Replication and DVD Replication, which needs a very stringent and quality manufacturing process. Unfortunately, it’s normally the end-user that suffers.
Even large manufacturers like Sony DADC are pulling out of CDR and DVDR production as they cannot see a viable future for their discs when so much cheap product is coming in from places like China and their own product is being shunned in favour of these cheap imports. However, their product will be sorely missed in the market as the quality of their recordable discs is far superior to most other manufacturers. Many companies will rue not buying this quality product in future as they find they receive discs that are inferior and can break down after little use.
It is now imperative that anyone looking for on-going supplies of Duplicated or Replicated CD, DVD and Blu-ray build a relationship with an established supplier who will cater for all their needs. Inevitably, if one switches from one supplier to another just to get a cheaper price, they will end up with a problem. There are very few Manufacturers of CD, DVD and Blu-ray Replication that can boast the quality of companies like Sony DADC, in fact there are no other large scale manufacturers in the UK, many suppliers will claim this not to be true and even call CD and DVD Duplication a fully manufactured product, which it isn’t of course, it is a CDR or DVDR which is duplicated on a copying machine.
Going back to the question of longevity of CD and DVD, incredibly some suppliers still copy and supply floppy discs, albeit on a small scale but this just emphasises how resilient these kind of media products really are. Naturally there has been a large reduction in the sales of these items each year and especially lately with the sales of digital downloads increasing drastically. Nevertheless, the overall numbers are huge and for some uses it is difficult to get around the flexibility and relatively low cost of CD Replication and DVD Replication in large numbers of copies.
Over the last couple of years many small suppliers of CD Duplication and DVD Duplication have fallen by the wayside as competition for less business has increased, this is set to continue in the current climate and even some quality suppliers will suffer due to the continual erosion of margins created by competition from very small suppliers who often do not have the resources to ensure on-time delivery. Many have only one or two machines for printing or duplication and when they break down do not have the expertise to repair them, some of which are obsolete and find parts or software updates are no longer available.
