The World’s First Flying Climbing Wall
The World’s First Flying Climbing Wall
Julien Roux has just completed an unprecedented feat: the world’s first flying bouldering wall.
At the same time, this becomes the highest climbing wall ever built, suspended at an altitude fluctuating between 4,200 and 4,350 meters (average: 4,275 m – pending Guinness World Record confirmation).
During the artistic performance, the maximum altitude above sea level reached 4,990 meters — higher than Mont Blanc (4,805 m).
The Man Behind the Dream
Julien Roux is a French athlete specializing in highline, the art of walking on a slackline stretched between mountains. He has already achieved extraordinary exploits such as this one: Watch on YouTube.
Aged 29, born in Lyon and now based in Annecy, Julien first competed at a high level in freestyle skiing. At 18, he suffered a serious accident during a competition that nearly cost him his life and left him immobilized for two years.
He began slacklining as part of his rehabilitation — and fell in love with it.
Since then, he has dedicated his life to mastering balance, conquering vertigo, and pushing both his personal and his sport’s limits.
“At the beginning, I was afraid of heights.”
Today, while highline remains his main form of expression, Julien has evolved into a multidisciplinary athlete, merging sports to bring his boldest ideas to life — climbing, skiing, golf, skydiving, alpinism, ice climbing, paragliding, even caving.
Through his creative projects, he aims to shed light on these disciplines that have shaped him.
Highline is still young and full of untapped potential — and for Julien, many pages of this story are yet to be written.
“I’m convinced that everything is possible. I chase my dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem.”
The Flying Wall Project
Julien dreamed of flying through the air on a hot air balloon, climbing his own wall as the sun rose over the Swiss Alps — surrounded by his friends, eyes on the clouds.
“I wanted to merge this imaginary world with my technical expertise — to make something real, while keeping absolute control and total safety.”
“This project is the culmination of my daily battle to control body and mind against vertigo. It’s far more than an aerial stunt — it’s a victory over fear, and proof that determination can bring even the wildest ideas to life.”
