Headteachers & Henry Mintzberg working together on Rebalancing Society to address climate crisis

"Headteachers and School Principals are leading their schools through unprecedentedly complex times and we want to help them find, learn and create constructive practices in their schools and the communities where they live", says Melanie Harwood, Founder of eduCCate Global.

eduCCate Global is pleased to be partnering with Coaching Ourselves to give headteachers a gift, “Bedtime stories for headteachers” with Henry Mintzberg, a world leading expert on management and strategy. This is the first in a series of peer-learning workshops, designed especially for forward-thinking headteachers in eduCCate Global’s ever-growing network.

This workshop is based on an idea that Henry Mintzberg developed in his book, “Bedtime stories for managers”. The idea is that headteachers, despite their role as managers, rarely, if ever, have the chance to reflect on and build their leadership and management skills or exchange with each other.

In this workshop headteachers will join other practicing headteachers from around the globe and participate in guided small group discussions around the theme of "Influencing others: Leading through trust". They will examine two common managerial pitfalls: relying too heavily on formal authority and relying on close personal relationships as methods of influencing others. They will then explore the only enduring basis of influence: trust. How do you establish trust with others? By building your own competence and character. What do you need to do differently? This session will help answer this question.

Henry Mintzberg, will join the headteachers at the end of the breakouts to hear about their learning experience, share his big idea for Rebalancing Society and lead a discussion on where and how headteachers and their schools can play a vital role.

Henry is the Cleghorn Professor of Management Studies at the Desautels Faculty of Management of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada where he has been teaching since 1968. He is the author or co-author of fifteen books, his management articles number over one hundred fifty, and he is recognized in the Web of Science list of “the world’s most cited and influential researchers” with approximately 4,000 citations.

This will be an incredible opportunity for headteachers to meet Henry and other headteachers from around the world, learn together, share ideas, and generate energy for action. While the challenges in our schools and school systems are many, the possibilities are endless.

“Bedtime stories for headteachers” Monday, October 18th from 4PM to 5:30 PM UK (11AM to 12:30 EST)
