Home to become new halls of residence

When it comes to going to university in the future, one in three adults said they would advise their children to go but to live at home during their studies.

At a time when many are concerned about the costs of getting through university, the new elephant research suggests that the cost of a degree may result in students going to their local university in the future to keep costs down.

In addition, 50% of survey respondents said they would encourage their child to get a part-time job while studying. Around one in five parents said they would financially support their children through university.

The findings are from new research for elephant communications in July 2012 and forms part of a new study on consumer outlook, which also explores attitudes to holiday spending, charitable giving and leisure.
