Survey reveals Best of British as Adele and Elgar close the Olympics

Following news today that the closing Olympic ceremony will feature an mash of British music from Elgar to Adele, results from an elephant communications poll conducted last week among 2,000 adults reveals the musicians and composers that would make people feel good about being British this year.

Adele topped the poll of 2,000 adults (31%), followed by The Beatles (25%), Queen (22%) and Take That (22%). The top classical choice was Edward Elgar (14%), sixth overall but number two with the over 55s. Other artists in the top 10 included: Catherine Jenkins (12%), Sir Cliff Richard (11%) and The Rolling Stones (10%).

The Beatles (26%) were the top choice for men, followed by Adele (24%) and Queen (23%). Adele was the top choice for women (38%), followed by Take That (28%).
