Glorious Gardens raises thousands for ellenor

Garden lovers have enjoyed a glorious year visiting some of the region’s beautiful gardens and in the process raising over £11,000 for ellenor.

Gardeners across Kent opened their gardens to the public or held private events as part of the charity’s Glorious Gardens programme, which has raised hundreds of thousands for families and their loved ones since it began in 2000.

I worked for ellenor as an on call GP and got to know the charity through that which gave me a huge respect for the work they do; my god-mother died from cancer and spent her last days with us, ellenor were so helpful to her. I take part in Glorious Gardens as I love working in the garden and I get a tremendous pleasure from other people enjoying the garden as much as I do’ says Vanessa Jeans, a Glorious Gardener participant

Established in 1985, ellenor provides specialist palliative and end of life care for babies, children and adults with life limiting and life threatening conditions, as well as support for their families. Serving a population of approximately 1 million across Kent and Bexley, the charity relies heavily on fundraising to continue providing its essential services, which cost £6.9million every year.

Katherine Barnes ellenor Fundraising Manager says “A huge thank you to all of our wonderful gardeners who share their gardens to raise money for ellenor and our army of volunteers who help at each event. We want our event to continue to grow and are keen to welcome more gardens to join the programme in 2019. We’d encourage anyone to take part – you could host a small private event for friends, families or colleagues or open up to the wider public”.
