Proud moments for team ellenor marathon heroes

Blisters, cramp and chafing could not deter 15 inspirational fundraisers who ran the Virgin Money London Marathon for ellenor.

On Sunday 26 August team ellenor tackled the iconic course from Blackheath to the Mall, to help local families facing terminal illness.

All had different reasons for running, but they were united in their mission to help seriously ill adults and children receive the very best care and support from ellenor

It was a triumph for all 15 runners who successfully crossed the finishing line, after pounding 26.2miles through the Capital and weeks of gruelling training in the lead up to the event.

Second-time London Marathon challenger Carly Paget from Welling ran in memory of family friend Michael Constantinou, who was cared for by ellenor. He was just 13 when he died of cancer in 2013.

Carly, who finished in five hours 38 minutes, smashed her £1500 target having raised £2800, with sponsorship still coming in.

Carly said: "The support and care ellenor gave to Michael and his family was amazing. It is a privilege to be able to raise money for a charity so close to my heart, in the aim to really make a difference to children and their families who require the constant support of ellenor."

Dave Reid from Dartford, who ran for ellenor in 2013, joined forces with friends Rachel Bignell and Tony Miller from a local running club, collectively raising over £3,000.

Finishing in four hours 32 minutes, Dave said: "I felt very proud to be able to run for ellenor again and it's very rewarding to see sponsorship still coming in."

Camilla Barden (pictured) completed the course in under four hours and raised over £4,000 which will be matched by her company Berkeley Homes, a loyal corporate supporter of ellenor.

If you would like to be a member of team ellenor in 2016 don’t forget to enter the national ballot! The entry system for the 2016 Virgin Money London Marathon will open online on Monday 4 May.
