Press release -

Australia Women win ICC Women's Cricket World Cup despite Sciver ton

Australia Women 356-5 beat England Women 285 by 71 runs

Alyssa Healy hit a memorable 170 as Australia Women beat England Women by 71 runs to win the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup.

Healy's innings - the highest ever in an ICC Cricket World Cup final - helped catapult Australia to a record 365-5, and despite a fine, spirited century in reply from Nat Sciver, England never looked likely to overcome such a mammoth total.

England won the toss and opted to bowl first, looking for early wickets, but they weren't to come as Healy and Rachael Haynes soaked up some early pressure.

Australia then went through the gears in the Christchurch sun to rack up the biggest total England had ever conceded in an ODI innings. Anya Shrubsole was the pick of the bowlers, with impressive figures of 10-0-46-3.

Sciver's innings - 148 from 121 balls - was a remarkable knock, but while it kept England hoping, they were never able to sustain partnerships for long enough to threaten.

It means Heather Knight's side failed in their efforts to defend the trophy they won in 2017, despite a resilient second half of the tournament that saw them win five must-win games on the bounce to make the final.
