Press release -

England Women qualify for World Cup semi-finals with Bangladesh win

England Women 234-6 beat Bangladesh Women 134 by 100 runs

England Women qualified for the ICC Women's World Cup semi-finals with an emphatic victory over Bangladesh in Wellington.

It completes a turnaround for the holders who were faced with winning four consecutive games to qualify after losing their opening three matches.

Bangladesh kept it tight with the ball and contained well after Heather Knight won the toss and chose to bat first. Knight's side found boundaries difficult to come by but Sophia Dunkley's fluent 67 added some much-needed impetus to take England to 234-6.

England's bowlers did their jobs in Bangladesh's reply, with Sophie Ecclestone (10-4-18-3) exemplary as ever. Freya Davies (10-0-36-2) bowled well on her return to the side and picked up two wickets on what was her first World Cup appearance.

England's opponents and venue for the semi-final will be determined by the outcome of the India v South Africa fixture, with England confirmed as third-place finishers if South Africa pass 173 in their chase.
