England Women take Vitality IT20 series 2-1 to enjoy success by the sea

England Women (81-3) beat New Zealand Women (80 all out) by seven wickets

The sunshine brought the heat but England Women stayed cool enough to win the Vitality IT20 series against New Zealand Women with a thumping seven wicket win.

Built on the back on an outstanding bowling performance by the seaside in Hove, Charlie Dean held aloft her first series trophy as stand in captain for Nat Sciver-Brunt who would have been delighted with how her team performed in her absence.

A winner-takes-all decider is exactly the sort of pressure England wanted to be put under and they responded with an all-round performance to delight the sell-out crowd.

Linsey Smith showed why she was named player of the series with 2-15 from her four overs, setting the tone from the first ball, while player of the match Dani Gibson was simply irresistible in taking 3-14 including the key scalp of Sophie Devine for a duck.

Skipper Dean was equally as effective with 3-13 as the visitors crumbled in the Sussex sunshine and were dismissed for just 80 inside their full allocation of 20 overs.

In reply Sophia Dunkley was again on the front foot getting England off to a strong start with four boundaries in her 22, before falling to Bree Illing.

And Maia Bouchier was determined to make sure she saw the side home in this chase with a well put together 19 not out to go with the two good catches she took in the field.

Once again England's fielding was only remarked upon for its quality in taking the attack to New Zealand in the first innings, and a sign that the hard work that continues to be put in, is clearly working.
