Press release -
Gardner and Sutherland lead Australia to victory in Indore
Australia Women 248-4 beat England Women 244-9 by six wickets
Ash Gardner and Annabel Sutherland put on 180 for the fifth wicket at Indore to help Australia Women preserve their unbeaten run at the ICC Women's World Cup and inflict upon England their first defeat of the competition.
England were asked to bat first and made 244-9, thanks to 78 from Tammy Beaumont and a partnership of 61 between Alice Capsey (38) and Charlie Dean (26).
Australian leg-spinner Alana King was in fine form, recording figures of 10-1-20-1, while Sutherland - who would be awarded Player of the Match for her all-round efforts - took 3-60.
Early wickets from Lauren Bell and Linsey Smith got England off to a good start with the ball, and they looked to have Australia in a spot of bother at 68-4, but Gardner and Sutherland fought back and weren't to be separated as they ensured England would be unable to finish top of the group.
Nat Sciver-Brunt's team will travel to Visakhapatnam for their final group game, against New Zealand on Sunday, with their semi-final now set to be in Guwahati.
