Press release -

Jake Ball in as Chris Woakes is set to miss first part of Australia ODI series

Nottinghamshire seamer Jake Ball has been drafted into England’s ODI squad for the Royal London series against Australia as cover for all-rounder Chris Woakes.

Woakes, who will be unavailable for the first part of the series with a right quad strain, joins Ben Stokes (left hamstring tear) on the injured list. Both players have commenced their injury rehab programmes and will be hoping to respond to treatment with the aim of featuring in the latter stages of the series.

Ball, 27, last played for England at the start of the year in Perth and was an integral member of the squad that defeated Australia 4-1 in the series Down Under.

Injury Update: Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes

    Chris Woakes
England and Warwickshire all-rounder Chris Woakes’ right quad tear, which he sustained at Emerald Headingley in the second Test against Pakistan earlier this month, was at least in part due to a flare-up of a chronic right knee problem. He has had an injection for the knee issue last Monday and will now undertake a rehabilitation and conditioning programme to address both injuries.
