Press release -

Rain sees points shared for England Women in Colombo

No Result: Pakistan Women 34-0 v England Women 133-9 (DLS)

Rain brought about a premature end to proceedings at the ICC Women's World Cup in Colombo, denying Pakistan Women a historic victory and allowing England to maintain their unbeaten record.

After being asked to bat first, England struggled. Tammy Beaumont went first, bowled by Diana Baig, and then the nip of Pakistan captain Fatima Sana accounted for Amy Jones, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight to leave Sciver-Brunt's side teetering at 39-4.

Spinners Sadia Iqbal and Rameen Shamim then took over, sharing three wickets between them and putting the brakes on England's scoring rate.

With England 79-7 the rain came, and the match was shortened to 31 overs per side. Charlie Dean and Em Arlott battled to a score of 133-9, reduced to a target of 113 via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.

England would have hoped for early wickets to get them back in the game and they weren't forthcoming, but with Pakistan 34-0 in the seventh over of their chase the rain returned and the points were shared.

One point leaves England top of the table on seven points, with three wins from four games. They travel to Indore to take on India on Sunday.
