Spinners steer Young Lions to victory

A dominant performance from England Men U19s spinners paved the way for a 130-run win over West Indies Men U19s in the third Youth ODI in Grenada.

Captain Farhan Ahmed, Ralphie Albert and Jack Nelson each claimed three wickets to bowl out the hosts for 119 in 30.3 overs.

The Young Lions had posted 249 for nine as Caleb Falconer top-scored with 43, while Albert added 37 from 31 balls.

The Young Lions had lost in the final over in each of the opening two games of the series, but were on course to pull a game back after reducing the hosts to 47 for five.

Ahmed’s decision to open the bowling paid dividends as he struck twice in the sixth over. Earshino Fontaine was caught in the deep by Luke Hands before Zachary Carter top-edged a sweep to Falconer.

Hands claimed the key wicket of Joshua Dorne when he miscued a pull shot and Albert held a stunning catch running back with the flight of the ball. Surrey all-rounder Albert then trapped Jonathan van Lange leg before and Nelson wrapped up the game when he held a return catch from Jakeem Pollard.

The fourth match of the series will be played at the National Stadium in Grenada on Monday.
