New ESVAGT vessel provides fewer emissions and more streamlined logistics for TotalEnergies' North Sea activities

The multifunctional vessel 'Esvagt Heidi' is part of a new strategy for the logistical operation of TotalEnergies EP Danmark A / S in the North Sea.Together with Danish ESVAGT, the company is rethinking and optimizing the logistics infrastructure offshore in order to create new synergies and foster a more efficient operation, and at the same time, reducing emissions too. On Wednesday, the vessel was christened in Esbjerg.

The latest steps in a historically comprehensive collaboration on safety and support in the Danish North Sea were taken on Wednesday, when godmother Heidi Helbo, Senior Legal Counsel, from TotalEnergies christened 'Esvagt Heidi' in the dock harbor in Esbjerg.

'Esvagt Heidi' is one of two rebuilt PX121 multifunctional vessels that, as something completely new, are able to perform several tasks and have several different roles in the operation. Together with the walk-to-work vessel 'Esvagt Dana', the sister vessel 'Esvagt Leah' and four other ESVAGT vessels, they will handle safety, transport, and supply work for TotalEnergies in the Danish part of the North Sea for the next many years.

The agreement, which is commercially historically large for ESVAGT, rethinks the operational and logistical infrastructure in the North Sea. Specifically, this means that compared to before, more functions and tasks are concentrated on fewer vessels. That part of the new infrastructure alone will lead to fewer emissions from the logistical part of the North Sea operation.

The collaboration includes the overall emergency preparedness that must be in place to be able to conduct a safe offshore operation, just as it includes transport and transfer of goods and people from onshore to offshore. Additionally, the new multifunctional vessels are classified as so-called hybrid vessels that can work on energy from both generators and electricity from batteries simultaneously. Thus, they also help to reduce the total energy consumption and the total emissions by utilizing shore power in port and supplementing with battery power during operation.

'Esvagt Heidi' together with 'Esvagt Leah' form the two rebuilt PX121 multifunctional vessels.

  • The crew on board is 13 men in total.
  • The vessel is 83.4 m long.
  • The vessel can load 4234 tons deadweight.
  • The vessels are classified as hybrid ships and will be able to work from battery and generator during operation.
  • The vessels are identical sister vessels of Ulstein Ship Design, and they are 10 years old. The vessels were rebuilt by Ulstein just prior to ESVAGT purchasing them.
  • The ships are amongst other things equipped with Davit and ESVAGT's own FRB boats (Fast Rescue Boats) so that they can cover the ERRV (Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel) need for emergency preparedness alongside supply.
