600 days without LTI

Press release -

600 days without LTI

On 27 October 2014, ESVAGT achieved a milestone in the shipping company’s history, with 600 days without lost time incidents.

“It’s an achievement we are happy about and proud of,” says Jesper Møhring Madsen, HSEQ Manager at ESVAGT:

“However, we know we haven’t achieved the goal. It is 600 good days, but we must not hide the fact that along the way we have been close to lost time incidents,” he stresses.

He will use the 600 days without lost time incidents as a reminder that it is a result that has been worked on every day and continues to be worked on in order to achieve it right across the organization:

“We must be careful not to get complacent and we must be careful with routine tasks. We are very humble and know that we have had incidents where it could have ended very differently,” he says.

Appreciated by customers

ESVAGT has 39 vessels and 849 employees, and the shipping company has increased its staff by 100 new employees in 2014 alone.

“Growth is a potential challenge for the safety culture. Therefore, we have been very focused on training our new colleagues in understanding our way of working,” says Jesper Møhring Madsen:

“We must not think that the level of safety comes by itself,” he says.

Chief Commercial and Safety Officer Ole Ditlev Nielsen is also pleased with the 600 days without lost time incidents.

“It’s an important milestone to have achieved; for staff at ESVAGT, for customers and the shipping company. We are fully aware that our performance in safety is the entire basis of our business and we must constantly strive to be better. It is critical for our customers’ confidence in us that we can prove that we know how to take care of ourselves,” says Ole Ditlev Nielsen.

“It’s about approaching the task with the experience we have, but with the humility as if it was the first time.”
