C-vessels ordered to a growing market

Another two vessels ordered from ASL in Singapore. Arrival in the summer of 2015

It is hoped that Lars Peter Mortensen, the ESVAGT site manager at the ASL Shipyard in Singapore, likes staying there as ESVAGT has not finished placing orders for group C-vessels with the ASL.

The shipping company has 12 ASL-built group C-vessels in the fleet, and another two are on the way this year. Now further two C-vessels have been ordered, and when they have been delivered in the summer of 2015, 16 of the company’s 40 vessels will be group C-vessels built by the ASL.

It is an extremely good and versatile vessel that suits the markets well in Denmark, Norway, Holland and the UK, says Ib Hansen, Head of Commercial in ESVAGT:

- The ship design is the natural successor of the trawler types that the company started with. The design is modern, purpose built, simple and ’basic’ – which makes the vessel attractive, and the vessels can at the same time be specially equipped as to the wishes and requirements of the customer. One group C-vessel such as ”Esvagt Caroline” has for example both dynamic positioning and fire fighting that can spout out 3,600 cbm of water per hour, he says.

For a growing market

The four most recent group C-vessels – ”Esvagt Celina” and ”Esvagt Celeste” and the two that are being completed just now and that will be delivered in April and June respectively – have all been built to withstand extreme winter conditions. Moreover, the company has rebuilt ”Esvagt Castor”, so that she will be able to cope with wintry conditions as well.

- This means that we have five group C-vessels that can operate in the Barents Sea and other cold areas, which we expect will cover the demand in the market in the foreseeable future, says Ib Hansen.

The two newly ordered vessels are thus ‘ordinary’ group C-vessels and have been ordered without any charter but for an expected expanding market:

- They have been ordered with an expectation that the market will continue to grow when they have been delivered to the shipping company, says Ib Hansen.
