Festive naming ceremony for the 'Esvagt Njord'

ESVAGT’s latest SOV, the ’Esvagt Njord’, was both christened and visited during the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival.

With its 84 metres and characteristic colour, ESVAGT’s latest SOV new build could not be missed as it was named in connection with the inauguration of the Statoil UK Wind Energy Centre in Great Yarmouth.

Godmother, Hedda Felin, Managing Director of Statoil Production UK, named the vessel the ’Esvagt Njord’, and after the naming ceremony and guided tour for invited guests, the vessel was opened to the general public.

The naming ceremony took place during the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival on the 9 September, and many festival guests were delighted to take a closer look at the ’Esvagt Njord’ and experience ESVAGT’s SOV concept at first hand.

“We received a very warm welcome in Great Yarmouth from customers, partners and festival guests in general. Our crew went to great lengths to show off the vessel and explain the SOV vessel concept to a great number of guests,” says Ole Ditlev Nielsen, Chief Commercial & Safety Officer for ESVAGT.

More than 1,000 guests booked a ticket to a tour of the ’Esvagt Njord’ and it was sold out from day one

“There is a great deal of interest in the area and offshore wind is growing. Our presence adds an additional new concept to those already on offer and we believe that this concept will make its mark on future development,” says Ole Ditlev Nielsen.

ESVAGT was sponsor for the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival and the entry fee of £5 for the tour of the ’Esvagt Njord’ went in full to the festival.

The ’Esvagt Njord’ dominated the view at the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival. During the festival, a local artist painted the ’Esvagt Njord’ in full sea spray – a painting that the festival later presented to the ’Esvagt Njord’ by way of thanks for ESVAGT’s sponsorship of the Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival.
