Message to EU ambassadors: The green transition requires a stable framework and political backing

Just two weeks into the Danish EU presidency, 100 EU ambassadors and advisors yesterday toured the green transition – naturally in Esbjerg, from where 2 out of 3 offshore wind turbines currently installed in Europe has been shipped out.

In Esbjerg, the ambassadors visited European Energy, Vestas, Ørsted and ESVAGT to gain an insight into what is going on in one of Europe's largest energy metropolises:

"One of Denmark's most important contributions is to show that the green society can go hand in hand with competitiveness and jobs," says EU ambassador Søren Jacobsen:

"There are so many good opportunities to make green investments that can pay off, and we must help to show that. Real-life examples work," he said.

The EU diplomats were able to study this reality at ESVAGT. Founded as a supply and support vessel company for the oil and gas sector in 1981, ESVAGT has since built one of Europe's largest fleets of SOV vessels for the offshore wind industry - in parallel with an extensive oil and gas business.

"Offshore wind is already one of the most important drivers of the green transition and continues to have great potential," says CEO Kristian Ole Jakobsen, ESVAGT.

"Offshore wind is a capital-intensive industry with complex, long-term operations at sea, which requires a strong, maritime supply chain that cooperates and commits to each other in the long term," he says.

“ESVAGT’s SOVs (Service Operation Vessels), which form the core of our offshore wind segment, are essential to keeping the offshore wind farms running, and they represent significant investments built on 10 or 15-year contracts. Therefore, it is important that there are stable framework conditions and that the green ambitions continue to be backed by political action,” says Kristian Ole Jakobsen.
