The ‘Ferrari of the sea’ tasted great

Mikkel Hansen is an experienced sailor on board the ’Esvagt Connector’ but he is also a keen sport angler with a great interest in Big Game fishing; the safari of the sport angling world.

However, he still had not conquered “the big one”: The big, fast and strong blue marlin.

The ’Esvagt Connector’ lay off the coast of Senegal; an area particularly blessed with large numbers of blue marlin. After many failed attempts, Mikkel finally hit the jackpot – a 3.38 metre long, 150 kilogram blue marlin.

It took him an hour and a half to battle the enormous fish to the surface – and nearly as long again for Mikkel to get his breath back. The catch was filleted and shared generously with the two other vessels that the ’Esvagt Connector’ was working alongside. On the ’Esvagt Connector’, the fish was served as pan fried cutlets and the word from the crew was that the blue martin was very similar to halibut in terms of taste and consistency.

The blue marlin is the opponent that the old fisherman battles against in Ernest Hemingway’s novel ‘The Old Man and The Sea’.
