Training budgets were challenged to deliver greater value in 2009

The results of Findcourses.co.uk’s Question of the Month in December 2009 showed that 56% of respondents stated that their company’s training budgets had decreased in 2009 compared to 2008. Although 14% of respondents claimed their firms budgets had remained the same for the last two years, 30% of people who answered the same survey stated that their training budgets had actually increased from 2008, which is quite likely a result of attempts at avoiding redundancies and retaining staff.

While training budgets may have decreased over the last year, the situation that Learning and Development managers faced was not one in which training went out of the window, but that the challenge of how to train staff was greater, according to experts. L&D managers themselves need to learn to be more creative with their budgets, and find new ways of adapting to current situations, particularly if they wish to improve the situation for 2010.

Findcourses.co.uk has received great feedback in this respect – as a free for users site – HR and L&D managers can search for training courses, compare prices and course lengths, and then make an informed decision on which training best suits their organisations requirements – and budgets. The types of courses that Findcourses.co.uk saw grew in popularity over 2009 were Management Development, Leadership, Coaching and Personal Development.
