Contemporary Art Gallery on your phone: Free Android app launched by Flaneur
A new exhibition space for contemporary art on Android phones and tablets has been launched by The Flaneur. The gallery can be accessed on Android devices around the world. This is a completely new way of interacting with contemporary art and with new exhibitions every month will bring attention to many contemporary artists who would otherwise not get exposure.
The new space has been launched with a group show that demonstrates successfully that fine art can be shown on phones. Downloading the gallery is completely free and it can be found by searching the Google Play store for 'Flaneur' or visiting http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flaneur.android.slideshow This app takes art into places such as underground stations, parks and trains - places where it has not previously been possible to view art and lets artists without local galleries show their work to connoisseurs worldwide.
The gallery will be updated regularly with new contemporary art shows and Flaneur believe that this new way of showing work will appeal to many artists and art lovers. 'Our gallery is open 24 hours a day, wherever you are. Once you have downloaded the exhibition you can view it anywhere. People can look at art as easily as reading a book,' said Jonathan Powell of Flaneur.
Submissions to the gallery are curated but completely free. Artists who wish to submit work for the next group show can do so easily by visiting The Flaneur and follow the links on the right of the home page. 'We are looking for all sorts of work to show in the gallery, so welcome submissions from all sorts of artists, whether they work in oils, graphite, marble or digitally.
The gallery is at the cutting edge of fine art and shows a way for traditional art galleries to interact with new media. 'The means of showing art is changing, but the art is still the same. We are embracing new technology, Jonathan Powell points out, 'And helping to bring art to a new generation who might not visit an art gallery as easily as download an app to their phone.'
