Review of Warburtons Lemon and Poppy Seed Muffins
Yet another delight from Warburtons gluten free. I'm surprised at how they've managed to release a free from cake that tastes so good and so different from any others in shops right now. The sponge is light and bouncy and the aroma of the lemon pours out as soon as you open the packet. "You know that statement that people say on cookery programmes, about how you use your eyes to eat and how the way a plate is presented in front of you can make a big difference?"
Well that statement really makes sense when you pick up a packet of the lemon and poppyseed cake. It looks good, delicious and mouth watering! And all you want to do is eat it right there and there. Let's just say that the way it was presented before I'd even taken a bite, totally sold it to me! :-)
I'm slowly working my way through the newly released warburtons product range, ensuring that I take my time to really enjoy them. The first one I tried was the blueberry and cranberry muffin. That blew my mind! So now the Lemon and poppy seed and it's just as good. As well as the way the cake looked, I really love the mixture of the two ingredients. I don't think I'd have ever thought about combining poppy seed and lemon in any of my personal baking escapades. :-)
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't eat this cake everyday, I couldn't! Not because I don't want to, but because my main aim this year is to lose the rest of the weight that I put on after years of steroids (just under 3st to go.) and other medication due to my illness. However I have made a point of allowing myself a weekly treat. Amongst other products that I also like, this cake as well as the blueberry and cranberry will certainly be on my treat list. You know what they say, variety is the spice of life. :-)
There are two cakes in the packet, so I share it with my boyf (he eats gluten). He's become accustomed now to eating nothing but gluten free cakes and as well as me, he's also become a taster/reviewer, without really meaning too. He's not complaining though, he seems happy enough. :-)
Each of the cakes are more than satisfactory for 1 person. In fact I've been cutting the cake in half and having one half with my lunch and the other with my dinner at night. Works for me, but if you're anything like my boyfriend, you'll happily devour the cake in one sitting. :-)
So next I'll be trying the spiced fruit loaf. I'm looking forward to this because it's actually been ages since I've had anything like it. I've already been dreaming about all the things I can try with it. I'm going to wait until the weekend and then tuck in. Yum!! It's Thursday morning and I've already decided that I'll be having it on Saturday for breakfast. (Over excited you might say.) My challenge back to that, is.... The free from market is growing and the variety is getting better and better. I still though feel like a kid sometimes when I see a new food on the shelves, I want to try it. :-) my eyes light up as it did as a little girl with every release of a new barbie! I'm just so glad that we have so many brands to choose from. Makes life that little bit more interesting in a world that can at times be limiting for those with food allergies and or intolerances. :-)
