Go North East welcomes Disney cruisers
We have been helping spread some Disney magic across Tyneside today by ensuring 1,200 passengers and crew of the iconic Disney Cruise ship saw the local sights.
As part of our partnership with the Port of Tyne, we have been running buses every 15 minutes from the ship’s berth, taking cruisers to Royal Quays, Tynemouth and Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside.
The 294-metre long vessel reached the Shields Ferry landing just before 6am this morning and we have been transporting passengers since 7am.
We also helped get crowds of Disney fans to and from the ship. Those who were there early enough were rewarded with the iconic first seven notes of the ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ song melody, which Disney ships use as their horn signals.
Head of marketing and retail at Go North East Stephen King said: “We transport ferry and cruise passengers into Newcastle from the Port every day but it’s a little more special when it’s Disney. We are looking forward to welcoming the ship back on the 19th June.”
Disney Magic is a cruise ship owned and operated by the Disney Cruise Line, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company.
It has 11 public decks, can accommodate 2,700 passengers in 875 staterooms, and has a crew of approximately 950.
