May Day fun to be had at Beamish this weekend

If you’re looking for something brilliant to do this weekend that won’t break the bank – how about joining in the spectacular May Day celebrations at Beamish?

If you get the bus there, or have a key card, you get a whopping 25% off the admission price. Why not take a picnic and make a day of it?

The Pit Village at Beamish is hosting a load of spectacular May Day activities on Sunday 1 May and Bank Holiday Monday, 2 May.

There will be a May Day King and Queen crowned, parades, music, Maypole dancing and headdress making.

There’s something for the whole family, including:

  • Make a May Day mask in The Pit Village school and join in the parade at 2.30pm.
  • The May Day King or Queen will be crowned just before the parade – which lucky visitors will claim the title?
  • Help decorate the May Day cart in The Pit Village. The cart will be pulled by one of our horses in the parade.
  • Have a go at Maypole dancing throughout the day in the pit pony field with musical accompaniment by Benny Graham.
  • Clog/rapper dancers will be performing and will join the parade.
  • See performances by Hadrian Clog on Sunday 1st May.
  • Learn about traditional May Day activities up at Pockerley Old Hall.
  • As with all daytime events, Unlimited Pass holders enter free of charge.

Get a Go North East bus to Beamish and you will get 25% off entry to the museum.
