Open top bus tour returns this weekend – just in time for the bank holiday heatwave
Go North East has announced the Toon Tour, its open-top sightseeing bus around Newcastle, is back in service this weekend. The award-winning tour returns just in time for the bank holiday weekend, when temperatures are set to reach 25C.
For the 2026 season, the service will run from 23 May until 27 September. The onboard commentary is voiced by local radio legends, Steve and Karen from Hits Radio.
The 55-minute trip starts at Central Station and includes St James’ Park, Ouseburn, Newcastle Castle and the Quayside. Visitors can hop on and off the bus at 16 different stops around Newcastle.
The Toon Tour won’t cross the Tyne Bridge this year due to the ongoing restoration works but passengers can use their 2026 ticket to get 50% off a Toon Tour ticket in 2027.
Daniel Laird, Head of Commercial at Go North East says: “I’m excited to announce the return of the Toon Tour. It’s a fantastic day out for visitors exploring Newcastle as well as locals who want to get to know their home city a little better.
Tickets will cost £10 for adults and £8 for students, over 60s, Blue light Card holders and those with a valid Go North East ticket. Tickets are just £6 for children under 16. Group tickets and private hire are also available.
Tickets can be bought on the bus, cash and contactless payments accepted, and on the Go North East app.
