    The Henie Onstad Triennial for Photography and New Media 1st Edition: February 21–May 16, 2020 The inaugural edition will bring together recent work of 31 international artists and be the first major international presentation of recent developments in art photography of its kind in Norway and will fill all three gallery spaces of the ground floor at the museum.

  • Demolishment of Picasso building in Norway

    Government building with rare Picasso murals in Oslo is decided to be demolished despite massive protests. “Tearing down the Y block constitutes the greatest loss of a cultural heritage monument in Norway since World War II”, director Hanna Geiran at the Directorate of Cultural Heritage, the public administrative body for cultural heritage in Norway, has stated to Norwegian media.

  • The Great Monster Dada Show

    On October 25, 2019, the exhibition The Great Monster Dada Show will open at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter in Norway. As the first comprehensive presentation of Dada in Norway, the exhibition will aim to place Kurt Schwitters in a larger Dada context, and thoroughly present the women in Dada.

  • Otobong Nkanga receives inaugural Lise Wilhelmsen Art Award

    Henie Onstad is delighted to officially announce that the inaugural winner of the Lise Wilhelmsen Art Award is Otobong Nkanga. The Programme presents 100,000 USD in prize money to an distinguished artist whose work will inspire and motivate future generations to active participation and social responsibility. The winner will feature in a dedicated exhibition at the museum the following year.

  • The Henie Onstad Kunstsenter raises its institutional voice in order to save the Y-block in Oslo with murals by Picasso

    Protestors, all dressed in Picasso-inspired striped shirts, joined a demonstration to protest against the Norwegian cabinet´s decision to demolish a key work within modernist architecture, Erling Viksjø´s Y-block (1969) with murals by Pablo Picasso. The decision has been met with massive protests from heritage organizations, architects, city planners, art historians and other professionals.

  • Norwegian Documentary Photography

    Freedom of speech and social engagement is presented by 35 photographers working in the intersection of art and documentary in a comprehensive exhibition at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, Norway. The exhibition will be open for the audience 23. August 2019 through 12. January 2020.

  • Boyle Family and historical poster art at Henie Onstad in Norway this spring

    April 19 Henie Onstad Kunstsenter in Norway opens two new exhibitions: Boyle Family: “Nothing is more radical than the facts” presents Henie Onstads large collection of works by Boyle Family in addition to several loans. In conjunction to this the exhibition Fleeting Form - Poster Art presents the art centers historical collection of posters for the very first time.

  • Marina Abramović – The Cleaner Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, Norway

    The retrospective exhibition Marina Abramović – The Cleaner has been produced in close collaboration with the artist herself and is the most comprehensive presentation of Marina Abramović´s work in Europe. When the exhibition opens at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter November 24, it will also be venue for the new Community Event, The Abramović Method.

  • Christopher Nielsen: I’m Just a Simple Conceptualist from Ulsrud

    On 23 October Christopher Nielsen: I’m Just a Simple Conceptualist from Ulsrud, the first major retrospective dedicated to Christopher Nielsen’s satirical and boundary-transcending universe, will open at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter and continue through 8 February 2015.

  • Josef Albers – first solo exhibition in Norway

    Following the exhibition Human Space Machine: Stage Experiments at the Bauhaus, Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (HOK) in Norway is proud to present an exhibition featuring the work of Josef Albers, one of the most influential Bauhaus artists.     On Friday March 21st at 10 AM Henie Onstad Kunstsenter will announce a decision regarding the ownership of the picture Woman in a Blue Dress in front of a Fireplace by Henri Matisse, dated 1937.

  • LEA PORSAGER AT HENIE ONSTAD KUNSTSENTER, NORWAY

    As part of its commitment to the production of contemporary art, Henie Onstad Kunstsenter (HOK) has commissioned a new work by Danish artist Lea Porsager: FOOD FOR THE MOON — Sluggish and Well-lubricated, 2013. Porsager was one of the youngest artists represented at Documenta in Kassel last year. Porsagers intallation is presented in a solo exhibition from October 25, through February 16 2014.

    For the first time key works from Northern Europe are presented side by side with their European mentors. Unknown to many, the Scandinavian and Baltic artists included played a significant role in the international art scene in the 1920s.

  • Bauhaus mutations from Norwegian artist Are Mokkelbost

    Vast 400 m2 textiles with brightly coloured patterns and figures are suspended from the ceiling. Abstract sounds escape from loudspeakers. In combination, they form the captivating installation OK which will fill the Haaken Hall at the Henie Onstad Kunstsenter in Norway this summer. The artist behind this work is Are Mokkelbost (37).
