The Hövding airbag for cyclists is highlighted at a large congress of orthopaedics and traumatology

The Swedish innovation company Hövding has been specially invited to speak at Europe's largest congress for orthopaedics and traumatology in Berlin and to give a presentation on how the head protection of the future can provide better protection for cyclists in the event of an accident.

The prestigious German Society of Orthopaedics and Trauma (DGOU) has invited the Hövding CEO, Fredrik Carling, to present Hövding at the congress.

"It’s glorious to be invited to be among all these medical professors and doctors to present Hövding as the head protection of the future and show how the airbag for cyclists provides protection in the event of an accident", says Fredrik Carling.

Last year, the DGOU recommended that cyclists use the Swedish innovation of the airbag for cyclists. Their experts highlighted the superiority of the Hövding as head protection in the event of a cycling accident, pointing out that the airbag also protects the neck and much of the cyclist's face.

Hövding is currently used by over 185,000 cyclists and there have been more than 4,000 accidents recorded in which Hövding has provided protection in the event of an accident.

The large congress in Berlin takes place between 22 and 25 October and this year there are expected to be around 10,000 participants representing around 60 nations.

About the DGOU

The DGOU (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Orthopädie und Unfallchirurgie) is a medical scientific society in Germany with approximately 10,800 members with a common focus on orthopaedics and traumatology.

Hövding - Airbag for cyclists

Hövding started out in 2005 as a master’s thesis by the two founders Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin, who, at the time, were studying Industrial Design at the University of Lund.

The project resulted in the concept of an airbag helmet, which won Innovationsbron’s Ideas Grant. This kick-started the process of developing Hövding into a real product. In 2006 Hövding won the Venture Cup, after which Hövding Sweden AB was founded.

Over the years Hövding has grown from just two people with a great idea, to a NASDAQ-listed company that handle everything from development and production to marketing and sales. Today Hövding consists of a team of around 30 people, all triggered by the word impossible, and Hövding’s airbag for cyclists is available in 16 markets across Europe.

The headquarters are located in an old chocolate factory in Malmö – the sixth greatest cycling city in the world. Final assembly of Hövding is carried out in association with the Japanese Company Nihon Plast.
