Scottish IES Acquires Assets of BVM Engineering, Opens Atlanta Office

Well-respected LEED APs join IES’ International Sustainable Consulting Team

Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES), a provider of integrated performance analysis software and consulting services for sustainable building design and operation, today acquired the assets of North American consulting firm BVM Engineering (BVME). The deal was forged from a strong synergy between the sustainable built environment vision of both company founders, Dr. Don McLean of IES and Brenda Morawa of BVME. Encompassing a well-respected team of experienced engineers and LEED Accredited Professionals (APs), BVME will bolster the existing IES International Sustainable Consulting Team and its presence in the U.S.

The current BVME staff will join IES immediately, with the existing BVME office in Atlanta forming the first base for IES in the southern states. As the geo/political capital of the south, establishing an IES office in this region significantly strengthens the company’s presence in North America, adding to its existing locations in Boston, Minneapolis and Vancouver, Canada.

Brenda Morawa, Founder of BVM Engineering commented: “There is a real resonance between the ethos of both our companies; we have an intrinsic passion for sustainable building design and the essential role performance analysis plays in the process. In fact, BVME was one of the earliest U.S. adopters of the IES Virtual Environment simulation technology. The team and I are incredibly excited at the opportunity joining IES presents.”

BVME’s extensive LEED and sustainable commissioning expertise is a perfect match with the existing IES Consulting team, who also include a number of LEED, BREEAM and other accredited professionals with experience across many high profile projects around the globe. This expertise reinforces the work IES consultants currently undertake on behalf of customers; supporting delivery of their client's projects through its combined offering of consulting services, software support, and training.

As part of the deal, Ms. Morawa will take a senior management position within IES as Vice President IES North America. Mark Knipfer, BVME’s current office manager and principal LEED assessor, will head up the Atlanta office and IES’ LEED consulting work at an international level as Vice President South Atlantic Division.

Dr. Don McLean, Founder and CEO of IES commented: “It’s not often a Scottish company is in a position to acquire an American one, andthis is an exciting chapter in IES’ development. I have great respect for Brenda Morawa – we come from a very similar background and share the same passion for sustainability. I’m incredibly honored to welcome her and her team to IES. BVME’s company culture and experience fits very closely with ours and I see an exciting future ahead.”

For an initial period, BVM Engineering will retain its name as ‘A Division of IES,’ after which IES will look to incorporate the brand within its own.
