Extra crunchy peanut butter... [infographic]

We don’t know quite what it is, but there’s something about bugs and rats that most people just can’t stand. The mere sight of a spider sends many shrieking and diving for cover, and if someone sees a rat – well – the reaction doesn’t bear thinking about. Chocolate – on the other hand – we all love. The two combined? Not the chocolate crunch most people would have in mind.

What you won’t know, however, is that by law, certain levels of rodent and insect filth (the legal term!) are actually permitted in food. Gross, eh? Well, maybe not. Infographic design agency infogr8 have created an illuminating and shocking visualization which reveals just what you may be eating without realizing it…

Did you know, for example, that there is on average a rodent hair per every 100g of chocolate you eat? Or, that there are, on average, 30 or more insect fragments per 100g of peanut butter? You’ll never think of crunchy peanut butter in the same way again, will you?!

Surely this is damaging your health, you may think? No, actually. A serving of grasshoppers, for example, has less fat and more protein than a serving of beef. Rodent poo… not so much.

Take a look at the infographic to find some startling stats. Read on if you think your stomach can handle it…
