JYSK St Helens breaks record for new store opening

JYSK UK is celebrating another record-breaking retail performance. St Helens, which opened on Saturday 15th June, broke all records for first day’s trading for a UK new store opening.

The St Helens Retail Park store’s sales for Grand Opening Weekend smashed the previous record holder’s, despite uncertain weather, and, ahead of the ribbon-cutting ceremony lengthy queues built up, a pattern that was echoed at the tills once inside.

JYSK previewed the latest store, opened as part of its five-year expansion plan, with a busy VIP evening attended by some of the town’s most prominent figures. They included the owner of St Helens RFC, Eamonn McManus, members of the women’s team who undertook a timed JYSK challenge and raised £500 for the town’s homeless and some of the male players’ wives and partners and St Helen’s MP Marie Rimmer.

David Ashton, Country Manager for JYSK UK, said; “For anyone who is a retailer at heart, the best days are really those spent working in our stores, alongside our team and with customers. The people of St Helens did not let us down, despite the weather, they came, and continued to arrive throughout the day, with big smiles on their faces and hands full of purchases on their way out.

“So far this financial year we welcomed +15% customers compared with last year. There is footfall out there. I am grateful for and value every customer who chooses to try JYSK, but with our range, great offers and customer service – it should be no surprise, as we continue to build a following for JYSK locally and nationally.

“Our St Helens store now adds to the growth, soon to be followed by Bradford [29th June] and Wakefield [3rd August].

“I am delighted that we broke yet another, record in St Helens. We plan to remain competitive, with a great offer for our customers, and doing our best to make breaking records a habit.”

St Helens’ warm welcome for JYSK continued throughout the weekend.
