London Luton Airport and Sue Ryder celebrate partnership

  • Over £120,000 raised for Bedfordshire care centre
  • Fundraising target exceeded by 50%

A partnership between London Luton Airport (LLA) and Sue Ryder has raised over £120,000 for the charity’s Bedfordshire-based St John’s Hospice. The funds have enabled the local care centre to deliver over 8,700 hours of incredible care.

In 2014 the airport formed a two-year partnership with the charity and in that time fundraising activities have included cycling to Brussels from the airport, a summer fair in torrential rain, quiz nights and numerous cake sales. Alongside generous donations from our passengers the partnership has been able to far exceed its original target of £85,000.

Paula Priestley, Head of Hospice Fundraising at Sue Ryder said: “I would like to thank London Luton for its support during the partnership. We have forged some great working relationships with staff and we are sure these will continue long into the future.”

Chika Austin, Community Relations officer at LLA said: “We are absolutely amazed by the amount we’ve raised over the past two years. 60% of funds were raised through employee led activities, which alongside the generosity of our passengers and sponsors, has made this partnership a huge success. We feel fortunate to be able to make this large contribution to Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice.”

London Luton Airport and Sue Ryder would like to thank all staff, passengers and supporters for making a real difference to the care and support for those who access the services provided by the hospice.
