Activating places and spaces through technology – a sneak peek into Active London 2022

Ahead of Active London 2022, taking place on 21 September, Head of Sport Tech Hub at London Sport, Milly Pelmore shares a sneak preview of the ‘Activating places and spaces through technology’ session.

Embracing technology to boost activity across the capital

In this session, we will be looking at the positive impact technology can have in activating places and spaces across the capital, to encourage more Londoners to be more physically active.

We will explore the power of collaboration between sporting organisations, community groups and local authorities across London and technology ventures, in creating new spaces for Londoners to take part in sport and physical activity in their day-to-day lives.

The latest innovations creating active environments in London

We are excited to showcase three sports and fitness technology ventures from our Sport Tech Hub community, who have created products and services that are embracing places and spaces across the capital, and further afield in European cities, to get people more active.

Ian Nagle, Founder of Swing Fitness, a fitness-tech start-up activating green spaces, will be showcasing the Swing Boxes. Swing Fitness took part in the Sport Tech Hub accelerator programme in 2021, and since then has gone on to transform green spaces in Barnet, Newham, Islington, Westminster, and Milton Keynes.

We will then be joined by Adrian Ledbury, who will be showcasing BoxUp. BoxUp offers access to shared sports and leisure equipment in local parks in cities across Europe, aiming to bring the same to London.

Finally, we will be joined by Ishan Jha, Founder of Travel Hands. Travel Hands is a service allowing visually impaired people to search for and be accompanied by nearby vetted volunteers, who are traveling to the same or a nearby destination by foot. Travel Hands makes active travel a more accessible and safe experience for people with disabilities in London.
