Digital Transformation Expert, Jillian Moore, Appointed Chair of London Sport

EMBARGO 00.01 02.07.2019

2 JULY 2019, LONDON, UK

London Sport, the non-profit agency seeking to make London the most physically active city in the world, have today confirmed that the Mayor of London has appointed digital expert Jillian Moore as its new Chair. The organisation, which was founded in 2014 as part of a coordinated effort by the Mayor of London, Sport England and London Councils to increase physical activity levels across the capital, works to support Londoners to live and enjoy the benefits of active lives.

Moore, the Global Head of the Digital Transformation Practice at Atos, brings experience from an executive career which includes an extensive track record of designing and delivering digital transformation for commercial and not-for-profit organisations.

The appointment was confirmed following an extensive recruitment process which also sees Nationwide Building Society Director of Campaigns and Public Policy and former Sport England Director of Business Partnerships, Tanya Joseph, and former Lloyds Banking Group executive, Mark Jopling, appointed trustees of London Sport.

Moore joins the organisation as its second permanent Chair, succeeding former Minister for Sport, Kate Hoey MP, who announced her decision to step down from the post in March 2017. Since Hoey’s departure, the Chair role has been covered by former Vice Chair and continuing trustee, Richard Barker, and current Vice Chair, Shaun Dawson.

Commenting on the appointments, Tove Okunniwa, London Sport Chief Executive said:
I am delighted that Jillian, Tanya and Mark will be joining the Board of London Sport. Their collective knowledge, expertise and reputation will be enormously valuable as we look to accelerate progress towards making London the most physically active city in the world. I look forward to working closely with Jillian, Tanya and Mark in the months and years to come.

Jillian Moore said:
I am honoured to have been appointed as the new Chair of London Sport. The organisation’s work over the past five years has laid strong foundations for the future health of the capital and I truly believe that the next few years will see those foundations have a dramatic impact on the lives of Londoners in every part of the city. I have been particularly impressed by London Sport’s leadership in digital innovation for grassroots physical activity; this is an area which is close to my heart and one which I feel offers enormous opportunities for the future of sport in London.

Debbie Weekes-Bernard, Deputy Mayor for Social Integration, Social Mobility and Community Engagement, added:
Sport brings Londoners of all backgrounds together and the Mayor and I are committed to helping boost physical activity and participation for everyone across the capital.

Our congratulations to Jillian on her appointment as the new Chair of London Sport, along with new trustees Tanya and Mark. Their expertise will be invaluable in taking forward the work of London Sport and making our city more active.”

Jillian Moore, Tanya Joseph and Mark Jopling will assume their Chair and Trustee roles immediately and will serve for an initial term of three years with an option to renew for up to a further two terms.
