ULTRA HIGH PERFORMANCE SYNTHETIC NEAT CUTTING OIL FOR SLIDING HEAD MACHINES

After experiencing several costly fires, smoke and fumes, expensive tool costs,  and excessive cutting oil consumption  on their Sliding head machines a Kent based engineering company went in search of a solution.

The company therefore required a cutting fluid that would provide high performance on a range of steels, alloys and yellow metals, that would minimize fire risks, keep the machine tools clean, and didn't cause any skin irritation to operators.

After trialing several products, it was decided that OLEOGREEN ESN10 a synthetic neat cutting oil from Lubriserv could meet all the criteria.

OLEOGREEN ESN 10 is a chlorine free, synthetic neat cutting fluid, that has been formulated using the latest advanced biodegradable ester based technology and is ideal for use in Sliding Head CNC machines like Star, Citizen, Dugard and Tornos machines.

Then Lubriserv recommended OLEOGREEN ESN10. “We did extensive trials with it on a range of materials from brass, stainless 304/316, 718, inconels and the results were outstanding! Here were all the properties we needed in a single fluid it was clear and clean, low misting and with a high flashpoint, self extinguishing and its lower viscosity was ideal for the high pressure coolant system. It was also technically superior, providing significantly better cutting performance and tool life. Infact we can increase the tool life by 300% by using OLEOGREEN ESN10 which also means longer runs with no stopping” explained Kevin, General Manager.

Kevin commented “Our Star Sliding Head machines use high pressure cutting oil systems, so we are working in extreme conditions. The OLEOGREEN ESN10 has no problems working under high pressure conditions where most neat cutting oils, even those claiming high pressure performances, begin to mist/smoke and foam significantly. It also has an extremely high flash point and self extinguishing properties which is necessary for the cutting conditions we're applying, and again, most oils just can’t meet the challenge.”

The benefits haven’t stopped there, Kevin explained “Our Operators are also impressed by the cleanliness, absence of mist and fumes and they were the first to notice another significant benefit, as the fluid is thinner than conventional mineral cutting oils OLEOGREEN ESN10 does not cling to the machine, components or the swarf which subsequently kept the machines cleaner but also lowered the dragout and reduced the oil consumption by around 40%”

In summary Kevin says that it would simply not be economical to use other cheaper coolants both from the commercial angle and also the health and safety aspect.
