Carnfunnock Country Park receives ‘Much Loved’ status

Carnfunnock Country Park has achieved “Much Loved” status in the Fields in Trust’s UK’s Best Park 2019 award.

Over 360 nominations were received of which 17 were from Northern Ireland with three placing within the top 20 per cent to receive the ‘Much Loved’ status.

Park users, communities, Friends of Parks groups, and landowners supported those nominations with over 36,000 votes received by members of the public.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Maureen Morrow said: “These awards highlight the vital role of local parks and green spaces for play, relaxation or sport, and help ensure they are protected from closure or building development.

“Our parks and green spaces are a vital part of our infrastructure. We know that they provide benefits to the physical health, mental wellbeing and community connections for people that use them, so we are delighted that Carnfunnock Country Park has achieved the ‘Much Loved’ status.

“Known as one of Northern Ireland’s best-known country parks. It attracts people from all over Northern Ireland and further afield. Onsite you will find a beautiful Maze, colourful gardens and woodland trails. There is also an activity centre, 9 hole golf course, a children's play park and fun zone – making your visit to Carnfunnock enjoyable for the entire family. You can also stay and camp on site making it the ideal spot to set up base, while exploring the area.

“This recognition also demonstrates the excellent work our staff do to keep our parks and open spaces at the highest possible standard so a big thanks to everyone who voted for Carnfunnock.”
