Press release -

Electoral registration kiosk installed at the Braid

An electoral kiosk has been installed in the Braid to allow the public to complete online electoral registration papers.

The new kiosk is located at the main entrance of the Braid Arts Centre in Ballymena.

Following the announcement of the relocation of the Newtownabbey Area Electoral Office to the Belfast headquarters it was recommended that the new kiosk be installed in council offices.

In June 2016 the Northern Ireland Electoral office announced the plans to close the Ballymena Area Electoral Office and relocate all services to the Newtownabbey office.

In order to try and improve the services available to the citizens of Mid and East Antrim the kiosk allows users to register to vote, information on Brexit and many other useful links.

Councillor Timothy Gaston has welcomed the installation of the kiosk.

“I think the implementation of this kiosk in Council buildings will prove to be very popular for our residents.

“This will make the task of electoral registrations much easier for people living in the Mid and East Antrim area.

“It was a big shock to the area when it was announced that the Electoral Office in Ballymena would close and that the closest office would be Newtownabbey.

“Now the Newtownabbey office has closed and all services are in Belfast, it is an even bigger problem for people from Mid and East Antrim.

“This kiosk will alleviate these issues and make it much easier for residents here.”
