Good Relations Week 2020 goes virtual

Local groups and organisations in Mid and East Antrim will showcase their good relations initiatives as part of this year’s virtual celebrations.

Good Relations Week 2020 will also mark the 30th anniversary of the Community Relations Council which supports peace building, connecting communities and cultural diversity with local groups and organisations.

Mid and East Antrim’s programme will run from Monday 14th to Monday September 21st and will include online events and digital content from a diverse range of groups and organisations.

The theme for the online showcase is ‘Celebrating Our Journey, Embracing Our Future.’ and the programme of events and content will include online workshops, Zoom lectures, podcasts, digital storytelling and virtual exhibitions.

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Peter Johnston, said: “Good Relations Week is something that we have supported for many years.

“It provides an important opportunity to showcase the good work that goes on within Mid and East Antrim all year and promotes mutual respect between people of differing backgrounds and cultures.”

Performances include Irish Dancing and musicians from local group Glór Dhal Riada, the Fiddle and The Fife project, a virtual exhibition showcasing the Life of Richard Hayward and online resources showcasing Sean Lester’s biography.

There will also be a look back on the diverse range of events delivered by Mid and East Antrim Good Relations team and photographic exhibitions produced by two projects involving Larne Youth Groups.

All events will can be accessed virtually with links being posted on the Council social media channels, as well as through the Good Relations Week 2020 dedicated website www.goodrelationsweek.com

The Community Relations Council, in partnership with local Councils, encouraged local groups and organisations, statutory bodies and local businesses to get involved and host an online event or create a piece of digital content that demonstrates the spirit of good community relations in 2020.

Good Relations Week is supported by The Executive Office, Department for Communities, Department of Justice and the Education Authority Northern Ireland and contributes to achieving the Together: Building a United Community Strategy.
