Press release -
Have your say on future play provision within The People’s Park, Ballymena
Residents of Mid and East Antrim are being encouraged to submit their views regarding new play equipment to be installed in the People’s Park in Ballymena.
The People's Park is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year and to celebrate Mid and East Antrim Borough Council have committed to invest in new facilities for the many children and young people who enjoy the park in their leisure time.
An online survey has been created and people are being encouraged to engage with Council on the future of the park. The consultation period will remain open for four weeks.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Peter Johnston, said: “I would welcome everyone to submit their ideas on the new facilities they would like to see in People’s Park.
“Parks are for the entire community and Council wants to ensure that there is something for everyone and of all abilities.
“Take 10 minutes out of your time to fill in the survey so the needs of the entire community are fully met.”
Phase One was completed in September 2019 and saw the installation of a large, inclusive multi-play unit.
In September 2020, work will commence on the delivery of phase two of the play area which will see the two existing play areas combined and extended to provide a new, inclusive play experience for children visiting the park. This phase of work is due to be completed by Easter 2021.
A further phase of work is planned which will entail the creation of a teen space in what was the bowling green within the park.
Much excitement lies ahead as we plan the next phase of investment within the park and we welcome your feedback regarding the content of the new play area and teen space.
