Larne and Ballymena groups recognised by the Queen for voluntary work

Two local groups have been congratulated by the Mayor of Mid and East Antrim after being named winners of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Councillor Peter Johnston visited both The Mae Murray Foundation in Larne and Coaching4Christ in Ahoghill this week.

Both were acknowledged with the prestigious award, which is the highest accolade a voluntary group can receive in the UK.

The two groups are among 230 charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups to receive the prestigious award this year.

The number of nominations remains high year on year, showing that the voluntary sector is thriving and full of innovative ideas to make life better for those around them.

The Mayor, said: “I am delighted to congratulate both groups on being awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

“This award is a great tribute to the voluntary work of the Mae Murray Foundation and Coaching4Christ members.

“It is a wonderful acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication the volunteers have put in to the community.”

Mae Murray Foundation’s Chairperson, Alix Crawford said: “We are delighted that our volunteer work has been recognised, and I’d like to pay tribute to the hard work, commitment and ongoing dedication of all our volunteers.

“From our young Ambassadors to our Board of Directors. This award acknowledges the difference we have made – and continue to make - to the quality of life of others in creating inclusive communities.”

Stephen Crawford, Founder of Coaching4Christ, added: “On behalf of Coaching4Christ we are privileged and honoured to receive the QAVS.

“I wish to acknowledge our Volunteers for their commitment and faithfulness to the Ministry - some of whom have volunteered for over 14 years.

“This is a tremendous achievement and we delighted to receive the Award on their behalf.”
