Mayor and Deputy Mayor - ‘stay safe, support local this Christmas’

The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Cllrs William McCaughey and Matthew Armstrong, have called on shoppers and visitors to our local towns and villages to continue playing their part in protecting the community throughout the festive period.

“I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in our borough a happy and healthy Christmas, and hope that better days are ahead of us all in 2022”, Mayor McCaughey said.

“This year has been another difficult one for so many of us, particularly those who have lost loved ones, experienced ill health or suffered financial hardship due to the ongoing pandemic.

“Our frontline health heroes have been working tirelessly throughout the COVID-19 emergency, and deserve our utmost thanks and appreciation.

“The rollout of the vaccine programme has been phenomenal, especially over recent weeks as so many people have received their booster injection, and we send our thanks to all involved in that operation, not least the community volunteers who give up their time and effort to help others.”

Deputy Mayor, Cllr Matthew Armstrong, echoed those sentiments, adding:

“Thank you to everyone who has played their part throughout the pandemic, whether that be through our health service, providing essential food and medicines, or ensuring our local businesses are supported during the busy festive period.

“I would also like to send the best wishes of the Christmas season to all within our community, and encourage everyone to continue making a real difference by shopping local, staying safe and protecting the most vulnerable in our society.”
