McDonalds set to return to Larne

The new Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Cllr Peter Johnston, has welcomed the anticipated return of fast food giant McDonald's to Larne as a major economic and employment boost for the borough.

While details on the future development of the former Ramp Lorry Car Park in Larne are subject to strict planning procedures, a tender for a drive-through McDonald’s restaurant was successful in the Development Brief bidding process.

Local residents will be kept fully informed as plans for the area are finalised and opening dates confirmed.

Welcoming the announcement, the newly elected Mayor said this was a positive step in the reinvigoration of the local economy.

“This is a fantastic endorsement in our borough and I am delighted to see a global giant investing locally,” he said.

“To have the promise of a major jobs boost for Larne and the wider area at a time when our economy is facing real and lasting hardship due to the impact of the Coronavirus crisis, is especially welcome news.

“I would like to assure residents that they will be kept informed of any developments as the future planning process gets underway and that all steps will be taken to ensure we have the best outcome for all our citizens.”

Councillor Gregg McKeen, meanwhile, added: “Growing and promoting our economy in Mid and East Antrim continues to be a key focus for Council, so this is fantastic news.

“The promise of new jobs for our borough is something to be celebrated, particularly as we face into uncertain times in the aftermath of Coronavirus.”
