Much-loved Harryville businesses have perfect recipe to overcome current challenges

Free parking is available in Harryville Pay and Display Car Park for the next month in a Council move to support local businesses during road works in the area.

Parking charges have been suspended at the Henry Street site from Monday 19th October, which coincided with the beginning of the four-week road closure to cars of Larne Street as part of major investment in the area.

Owners of the much-loved Irons Bakery, Peggy Eaton and her daughter Rachel Smith, said they are very much open for business, and are looking forward to seeing all their regulars and new customers over the next few weeks.

“We have been trading in Harryville for over 50 years,” they said.

“We still use many of the same recipes and we want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that we are open as are the other businesses in the area.

“We feel there are many great independent businesses in Harryville and people can pick up everything they need, so we would encourage shoppers to make use of the free parking and come along to get all that they need in one place.

“This is a very difficult time for all businesses trying to navigate their way through the current restrictions so we would encourage everyone to continue to shop local, and shop safe.”

Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Councillor Peter Johnston, said: “In preparation for the closure of Larne Street and the recent tightening of restrictions in Northern Ireland, Council want to support traders in Harryville by offering shoppers free parking and to help facilitate delivery drivers who may not be able to get close access to businesses.

“We continue to support local traders and we hope this will encourage visitors to the area and make things easier for those trading in the general vicinity of Harryville.

“The Harryville area has an abundance of creative and innovative businesses who need supported at this time and we would encourage people that all our town centres are safe to visit and remain open for business.”
