Van rental firm helps Council to deliver food parcels to the most vulnerable

Community spirit continues to shine in Mid and East Antrim during the Coronavirus pandemic, with members of the public, businesses and charities all providing offers of help to those most in need in our society.

As demand for the Department for Communities-led food parcel scheme remains high, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council are delighted that Rent A Merc has provided vehicles to help our officers deliver the basic supplies to people shielding on medical advice or those at risk of food poverty.

The company is providing assistance through its Mallusk office and deliveries of food parcels are continuing throughout the borough.

Cllr Gregg McKeen said: “Throughout the Coronavirus crisis, we have been continually impressed by the level of community spirit which exists in our borough.

“We are delighted that Rent A Merc have got in touch to offer their help as we work to get food parcels to those who need them.

“From the very beginning of this emergency, we have seen the best of people shining through, from members of the public, sports clubs and community groups, to private companies and businesses.

“We are grateful to all those who have been pulling together to help in these difficult times.”

The food parcel service is part of the emergency response for those who are in critical need of food and have no other means of accessing it, either through deliveries, or help from family and friends.
