Press release -

Energy saving for your business and protect the environment and your pocket

WITH 2011 just around the corner, giving up smoking or getting fit could make way for more business-related New Year resolutions for many cash-conscious workplaces.

The financial climate over the past 12 months has seen numerous local businesses become even more energy, environmentally and economically savvy.

Offering some expert advice when it comes to saving energy, and safeguarding the life of office equipment, is leading IT communication company Remark Group.

The Peterborough-based company has over 25 years experience of supplying IT and up-to-the-minute audio-visual equipment – as well as telephone system installation and maintenance – to businesses across Cambridgeshire, Fenland, Northamptonshire, Stamford and other parts of Lincolnshire.

Here are their tips on how to …

Save energy

-       Turn off all non-essential equipment when the office closes at night (this includes computer monitors and printers)

-       Likewise, if you don’t plan to use certain equipment for a long period during the day, just switch it on when it is needed.

-       Email and file share rather than print, and if it is necessary to print – use double-sided and black and white where possible.

Make the most of existing equipment:

-       Where possible upgrade and repair instead of replacing.

-       Memory upgrades are a cheaper alternative to replacing a complete PC, again where this option is more cost-effective.

-       Replace the PC but keep the same monitor.

Check when things go wrong in the first instance:

-       Try and have a disaster recover plan in place.

-       Look at the plan and follow any actions.

-       Attempt to identify the cause (this may be loss of power to the office).

Self help:

-       Make sure the anti-virus and spyware is up-to-date and run a scan

-       Clean the computer each month

-       Defragment the drive each month

-       Carry out regular software updates.

Remark Group development manager Jim Newell said: “As simple as these may sound, we visit many premises where some simple housekeeping rules can help to protect the equipment and save money.

“We recognise that in the ongoing financial climate many businesses, whatever their size, just don’t have the budget to replace an entire telephone or computer system.

“Our company ethos has always been to put the needs of the customer first and then act on their requirements. Our team of engineers and installers are happy to provide free advice, as well as installation and after sales care.”
