CCTV footage issued to by detectives investigating city centre assault

We have issued CCTV footage of a man police believe could have information which would assist an investigation into a city centre assault.

It was reported a 34-year-old man was assaulted on Renshaw Street in the early hours of 11 August 2018 after he was reported to have engaged in conversation with three other men.

After a brief conversation, two of the men punched the victim in the face causing him to fall to the floor, leaving him unconscious.

One of the offenders is then reported to have helped the victim up and onto the pavement but made off from the location shortly afterwards.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for a broken ankle, severe bruising and swelling to his face and required stitches to his lips.

A 31-year-old man from Knowsley Village voluntarily attended for interview following the incident.

Officers are now issuing moving footage of a man and are appealing to anyone who recognises him to come forward.

Detective Constable David Ellis said: “This was a completely unprovoked attack on a man who had simply been having a night out in Liverpool city centre, and we are determined to bring those responsible to justice.

“As well as causing significant physical injuries to the victim, he has clearly been left extremely traumatised by this incident.

“We appeal to anyone who recognises the man in the footage to contact police as we continue to investigate.”
